A Gothic gem listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site with unique architecture and the atmosphere of medieval Kutná Hora.
St. Barbara's Church in Kutná Hora is one of the most significant Gothic churches in Central Europe and rightfully belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage list. Its construction, dedicated to the patron saint of miners St. Barbara, began in the 14th century on the initiative of wealthy Kutná Hora burghers, but due to the Hussite Wars and economic problems, it lasted intermittently until 1905. Today it is a symbol of the prosperity that silver mining brought to the town.
The church's architecture will amaze you with a unique tent roof over the nave, a complex system of flying buttresses, and rich sculptural decoration. The interior is adorned with beautiful stained glass, a Renaissance pulpit, and a miners' chapel with paintings of miners' lives. From the gallery, there opens an unforgettable view of the historic center of Kutná Hora and the surrounding countryside.
Your visit can easily be combined with a tour of the neighboring Jesuit College and the nearby famous ossuary in Sedlec. The church is open year-round, and the admission includes a printed guide. We recommend arriving by train and enjoying a pleasant walk through the historic town full of monuments.
