A vanished village in the heart of the Šumava Mountains, today a memorial site commemorating the post-war expulsion of Germans.
Zhůří (German: Haidl) was once a mining village in the Šumava Mountains, founded in the 16th century. After World War II, the German population was expelled and the village gradually disappeared. Today you can find only remnants of house foundations and the original cemetery, which has been renovated.
The site is a popular destination for tourists and cyclists who visit during their travels through the Šumava Mountains. There are information boards with history and a beautiful view of the surrounding landscape. Marked hiking trails run through the area, for example to the nearby Poledník lookout tower.
For lovers of history and peaceful places, Zhůří is an ideal stop. We also recommend visiting nearby Prášily or Březník. Be prepared that there is no refreshment available, bring everything with you.
