The oldest cave in Bohemia with magical underground decoration and winding passages.
Chýnovská jeskyně, discovered in 1863, is the oldest cave open to the public in the Czech Republic. It is located in a beautiful wooded valley near the town of Chýnov and offers a captivating glimpse into an underground world formed by limestone and marble.
The tour route, approximately 220 meters long, reveals colorful stalactites, sinter formations, and underground lakes. A highlight is the so-called "Chapel" – a spacious hall with unique decoration, or Purkyňovo jezírko (Purkyně's Lake). The cave is also known for its rare bat population and the preserved nature in the surroundings.
Visitors can enjoy an educational trail and a small museum with exhibits on the geology and history of the cave. We recommend sturdy shoes and warmer clothing – the temperature inside stays around 8 °C all year round. Parking is available at the entrance area.

It is one of the oldest documented caves in Central Europe, with the first mention dating back to 1430. The labyrinth of passages and crevices over four hundred meters long often served as a hiding place in ancient times, as evidenced by numerous inscriptions on the walls. The current tour route, 220 meters long, is barrier-free.
