Gothic gem and symbol of Kutná Hora, a UNESCO World Heritage site. A magnificent cathedral with a captivating history linked to silver mining.
Church of Saint Barbara is one of the most significant medieval Gothic churches in the Czech Republic and a jewel of Kutná Hora. Its construction, begun in 1388, is closely tied to the city's wealth from silver mining. Saint Barbara, the patron saint of miners, became the protector of the church, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1995.
During a visit, you will be charmed by the monumental nave with a ribbed vault, beautiful late Gothic frescoes with mining motifs, and unique chapels with rich decorations. The construction, involving outstanding architects such as Peter Parler and Matěj Rejsek, lasted intermittently for over 500 years, yet it appears harmonious. Don't forget to admire the view of the city from the adjacent terrace.
The church is located in the center of Kutná Hora, near other monuments. Open all year round, an ideal visit takes about an hour. We recommend combining it with a tour of Hrádek – the Silver Museum. Tickets can be purchased at the tourist information center.
