Scenic summit in the Šumava Mountains with a lookout tower, ideal for hiking and winter sports. Beautiful views of the Šumava ridges.
Churáňov (1,118 m above sea level) is a prominent peak in the central part of the Šumava Mountains, near the village of Zdíkov. At its summit stands a stone lookout tower from 1936, offering panoramic views of the Šumava plains, Boubín, Plechý, and even the Alps.
The area is popular for hiking in summer and cross-country skiing in winter – there are many marked trails and ski tracks. On Churáňov, there is also a hotel and restaurant, suitable for refreshments.
Interestingly, in 1990 the lowest temperature in the Czech Republic was measured here (-41.1 °C). Access is possible by car all the way to the summit; parking is right by the lookout tower.
