České Žleby is a small settlement in the heart of the Šumava mountains, near the state border with Germany. It lies at an altitude of around 800 meters and is surrounded by vast forests and meadows. The place is a starting point for a number of hiking trails, including the route to the source of the Vltava River or to the nearby Boubín Mountain.
In the vicinity, you can also find historical monuments, such as the Church of St. Catherine from the 17th century or original Šumava homesteads. The settlement is known thanks to the novel and film "Kytice" by Karel Jaromír Erben, which takes place here. In winter, the area is suitable for cross-country skiing.
Visitors have several accommodation facilities and restaurants at their disposal. It is also recommended to visit the nearby extinct village of Bučina with a former border crossing. České Žleby is an ideal place for a quiet holiday in nature.
