Monumental sandstone reliefs of giant devil heads carved into rocks. A mysterious, artistically unique creation by sculptor Václav Levý in the picturesque landscape of Kokořínsko region.
Čertovy hlavy (Devil's Heads) are one of the most famous works of sculptor Václav Levý, who carved them into sandstone rocks near the village of Želízy between 1841 and 1846. Two giant reliefs of devil faces, each about 9 meters high, appear monumental and mysterious. They belong to the largest rock sculptures in the Czech Republic and are freely accessible all year round.
The site is surrounded by the romantic landscape of Kokořínsko, ideal for hiking and cycling. Nearby is another work by Levý, the Klácelka cave, decorated with reliefs of animals and figures. Čertovy hlavy are easily accessible on foot from Želízy along the blue tourist trail and attract photographers and lovers of mysterious atmosphere.
Parking is available in Želízy, from where a pleasant walk through pine forests leads. Admission is free and year-round. We recommend combining the visit with a tour of other rock formations such as Harfenice or Mordové rokle to discover the beauty of the sandstone phenomenon that made Kokořínsko famous.
