Waterfall Šumava

Černá strž

About this place

The highest waterfall in Šumava in the heart of wild nature, hidden in a national nature reserve.

Černá strž is the highest and most powerful waterfall in the entire Šumava region, located in a national nature reserve within the Šumava National Park. It lies on the Černý potok stream, which springs on the slopes of Mount Luzný and falls from a height of 12 meters into the valley. The total length of the cascades reaches 30 meters, with the highest step measuring 8 meters.

The waterfall is surrounded by dense forest, and due to its remote location, it offers a unique experience of pristine nature. An educational trail from the village of Modrava, about 3 kilometers long, leads to the waterfall and is accessible on foot or by bike. Along the way, you pass old stumps, rock formations, and the stream creating a pleasant murmur. It is recommended to visit in spring after the snow melts, when the flow is highest and the waterfall is most powerful.

Černá strž is part of a nature reserve, so you must stay on marked trails. The site is accessible year-round, but in winter the path may be more challenging due to snow and ice. There is a parking lot in Modrava, from where a blue-marked trail leads. Do not forget to bring sturdy shoes and a camera, as the views of the falling water and surrounding forest are breathtaking.
