Boží Dar is a picturesque mountain town with an altitude of 1028 meters, making it the highest town in the Czech Republic and one of the highest in Central Europe. It lies on a plateau in the Ore Mountains, surrounded by vast forests and peat bogs. The town's history dates back to the 16th century, when it was founded in connection with silver and tin mining. Today, it is a sought-after year-round tourist destination.
Main attractions include the late Baroque church of St. Anne, the Božídarské peat bog nature trail with an observation tower, and nearby Klínovec – the highest mountain of the Ore Mountains. In winter, Boží Dar turns into a popular ski resort with groomed cross-country trails and slopes. In summer, it offers hiking, cycling trips and clean mountain air.
The town provides ample accommodation, restaurants and a tourist information center. It is conveniently accessible by car and public transport from Karlovy Vary or the German Oberwiesenthal. You can combine your visit with a trip to Plešivec or Jáchymov.
