An impressive observation tower atop a former blast furnace offers a unique view of Ostrava and the industrial heritage of Dolní Vítkovice.
Bolt Tower is a 77-meter-high observation tower placed on top of the reconstructed Blast Furnace No. 1 in the Dolní Vítkovice area. It got its name after the Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt, who in 2012 helped promote the transformation of the industrial giant into a center of culture and education in Ostrava.
From the steel superstructure shaped like a screw, a beautiful circular view of the entire Ostrava, the Beskydy Mountains, and on clear days even the Jeseníky Mountains opens up. Inside the tower you will find a café, an exhibition on the history of ironmaking, and original technical details of the furnace. The ascent itself along the spiral staircase offers several stops with information about the technological marvel that once operated here.
Bolt Tower is part of the National Cultural Monument, and the entire Dolní Vítkovice area offers dozens of attractions – from interactive museums through the children's world Malý svět techniky to a sightseeing ride on a narrow-gauge mining railway. The visit can be perfectly combined with a walk around Gong or Sviště, and in the evening you will appreciate the illuminated landmark from afar.
