A legendary hill shrouded in the tale of a sleeping army. Head to Velký Blaník for a romantic ruin and a view of the countryside.
Blaník Mountain, with its two peaks – Velký Blaník and Malý Blaník – is shrouded in one of the most famous Czech legends. According to it, the army of Saint Wenceslas sleeps inside the mountain, ready to come to the nation's aid in its darkest hour. Thanks to this legend, Blaník has become a symbol of hope and national strength.
On Velký Blaník, you will find the ruins of the pilgrimage Church of St. Mary Magdalene, a stone observation tower, and remnants of a medieval castle. From the tower, there is a beautiful panoramic view of the Vlašim Uplands and the Posázaví region. On Malý Blaník, there is the torso of an older castle, freely accessible.
The entire area is protected as a nature reserve with beech forests and rare flora. The ideal starting point is the village of Louňovice pod Blaníkem, from which a blue tourist trail leads. You can reach the summit with a comfortable walk in less than an hour. In Louňovice, you will also find an information center and a museum dedicated to the Blaník legend.
