Antýgl

About this place

A magical spot on the Vydra River with a wooden bridge and remnants of a glassmaking settlement, surrounded by Šumava nature. Ideal for romantic walks and relaxation.

Antýgl is a picturesque corner on the upper reaches of the Vydra River in the heart of the Šumava, near Srní. The place is famous primarily for its unique covered wooden bridge, which is listed as a technical monument. In the past, there was a glassworks and a glassmakers' settlement, but now only faint remnants and a replica of the original bell tower remain.

A walk around Antýgl is one of the most beautiful stretches along the Vydra. The wild river forces its way through giant boulders, creating rapids and quiet pools. The trail runs along wooden boardwalks and is suitable for families with children. In summer, it invites you to cool off, and in autumn, the colorful beech forests create an unforgettable atmosphere.

Nearby, there is an information center of the Šumava National Park Administration with a small exhibition on the history of glassmaking and nature. Refreshments are available at a stylish inn right by the bridge. We recommend combining a visit with a trip to the Klostermann Lookout or to the giant boulders near Turner's Hut. Accessible by car from Modrava or Srní, with parking directly at the site.
