Lake Bohinj (Bohinjsko jezero)

About this place

The largest natural lake in Slovenia, located in the heart of the Julian Alps, ideal for hiking, swimming, and trips to Savica Waterfall.

Lake Bohinj, lying in the heart of Triglav National Park, is the largest glacial lake in Slovenia. It was formed after the retreat of a glacier and today enchants with its crystal-clear water and panorama of surrounding mountains. The lake is a popular destination for nature lovers, hikers, and cyclists – everyone will find something here.

The dominant feature of the western shore is the Church of St. John the Baptist with its typical bell tower, offering romantic views. A trail from the lake leads to the impressive Savica Waterfall, one of the most famous waterfalls in Slovenia. Those who love heights can take the cable car to Mount Vogel, which provides breathtaking views of the lake and surrounding peaks.

For Czech travelers, Bohinj is accessible by car or bus from Bled (approx. 25 km). There are paid parking lots near the lake; we recommend arriving early in the main season. Entry to the national park is free, and a small fee is charged for visiting Savica Waterfall. Don't forget your swimsuit, good shoes, and camera – the scenery is unforgettable.
