Bled Castle (Blejski grad)

About this place

A picturesque medieval castle perched on a cliff above Lake Bled offers breathtaking views and rich history. An ideal trip for Czech tourists.

Bled Castle, first mentioned in 1011, is the oldest castle in Slovenia. It stands on a steep 130-meter cliff directly above the surface of Lake Bled and forms an unmistakable landmark of the entire area. Its history is tied to the bishops of Brixen, who resided here for centuries.

During the tour, you can visit the castle museum with an exhibition on the development of the region, admire the Romanesque Chapel of St. Albuin and St. Henry with frescoes, or try traditional printing on a replica of a historic press. Don't forget to taste local wine in the medieval wine cellar and enjoy the panorama from the terrace – the view of the lake with the island is unforgettable.

For Czech tourists, the castle is easily accessible by car (parking below the castle) or on foot along a marked path from the lake. Admission is approximately €11, opening hours vary by season. We recommend combining the visit with a ride on a pletna boat to Bled Island.
