Debeli rtič
A picturesque cape of the Strunjan Park with cliffs, views of the Adriatic and rich Mediterranean flora.
A picturesque seaside destination on the Slovenian coast, known for its beaches, campsites and a peaceful Mediterranean atmosphere, ideal for a family holiday.
Ankaran is the northernmost resort on the Slovenian coast, located right at the Italian border. Its history dates back to the 12th century, when a settlement with an inn called "Ancaria" was mentioned here, from which it got its name. It was once part of the Republic of Venice, later the Habsburg Monarchy, and after World War II it became part of Yugoslavia. Today it is a popular tourist destination that retains a tranquil fishing village atmosphere and offers modern facilities for visitors.
The main attraction is the Debeli rtič peninsula with a nature reserve, where rare Mediterranean plants grow and there are remnants of historic salt pans. The beaches are mostly grassy and pebbly, with a gentle entry into the sea, appreciated by families with children. Ankaran has several campsites, the most famous being Adria Ankaran, which also offers pools and animation programs. Active tourists can use the cycling routes along the coast or go for a hike in the surrounding hills with views of the Gulf of Trieste.
For Czech travelers, Ankaran is accessible by car via the motorway through Ljubljana and Koper (approx. 7 hours from Prague). The nearest larger town is Koper with its historic center and port, which can also be reached by train from Ljubljana, from where bus connections continue. We recommend visiting the salt pans in Sečovlje or taking a boat trip to the Strunjan nature reserve. The local cuisine combines Mediterranean and Slovenian influences – try fresh fish, olive oil and wine from the Primorska region.
