Rafting on the Dunajec River
Traditional wooden raft trip through the Dunajec Gorge in the Pieniny Mountains. An unforgettable experience with views of the iconic Three Crowns.
A former Carthusian monastery from the 14th century in the heart of the Pieniny Mountains offers a unique museum and a starting point for rafting trips on the Dunajec River.
Červený Kláštor is a national cultural monument and a former monastery of the Carthusians and later the Camaldolese, located in the picturesque Dunajec Valley in the Pieniny Mountains. The monastery was founded in 1319 and got its name from the red bricks it was built with. Today, the Museum of Červený Kláštor is housed here, presenting visitors with the life of the monks, the history of the monastery, and the surrounding nature.
The main attraction is the exhibition dedicated to the monk Cyprián, who lived here in the 18th century and was renowned as a herbalist, botanist, and astronomer. In the monastery grounds, you can see the original monastery church, Baroque gardens, a pharmacy, and monks' cells. The museum also includes a unique collection of herbs and old prints.
Červený Kláštor is also an ideal starting point for rafting on wooden rafts on the Dunajec River, one of the biggest attractions of the Pieniny Mountains. We recommend combining a visit to the monastery with a rafting trip – you can purchase a discounted combined ticket. From the parking lot near the monastery, you can easily reach the boarding point. During the main season, expect larger crowds, so it's better to arrive in the morning hours.
