Château Horná Nitra

Bojnický zámok (Bojnice Castle)

About this place

The most visited Slovak chateau with romantic architecture, enchanting interiors and a famous zoo at the foot of the Strážovské vrchy mountains.

Originally a wooden castle from the 12th century, it was gradually rebuilt into a stone Gothic castle, and in the 19th century, thanks to the Pálffy family, it was transformed into a romantic chateau inspired by the French Loire. Today it is one of the most beautiful and visited landmarks of Slovakia.

The interior features the Golden Hall with rich stucco decoration, the Oriental Salon, and the castle chapel. The complex also includes a natural travertine cave and a large zoo. Every year, the International Festival of Ghosts and Spirits is held here, attracting thousands of visitors.

For Czech tourists, Bojnice is easily accessible by car from Brno (about 3 hours) or by train to Prievidza. We recommend combining a tour of the castle with a visit to the zoo, thermal pool, or the nearby Beckov Castle. Don't forget to try local specialties in one of the restaurants in the castle district.
