Blatnický hrad, a ruin of a Gothic castle from the 13th century, rises on the steep limestone hill of Plešovica in a national nature area. Originally it guarded a trade route from Turiec to Orava and belonged to several important families. Today, the remains of the tower, palace and walls are visible, giving an idea of its former vast fortress. A partial preserved water cistern is an interesting feature.
For Czech visitors, the castle is easily accessible from the village of Blatnica along the green tourist trail (approx. 30 minutes walk). We recommend comfortable footwear; along the way, beautiful views of the Turčianska kotlina basin and surrounding mountains open up. In the village, you can visit the Blatnické Museum documenting the culture and history of the region. The ideal time for a trip is spring and autumn; in summer it can be hot in the area. The castle is a popular destination for family outings and history lovers.
