Blatnická dolina

About this place

Picturesque valley in the Veľká Fatra with rich history, limestone rocks, and the possibility of climbing to Blatnický hrad.

Blatnická dolina is one of the most picturesque valleys in the Veľká Fatra mountain range. This approximately six-kilometer-long valley, carved by the Blatnický potok stream, attracts tourists not only with its beautiful nature but also with interesting limestone formations and rich history. Above the valley, on a rocky outcrop, rises the ruin of Blatnický hrad, from which there are beautiful views of the surroundings.

The area is a paradise for hiking and cycling enthusiasts. From the parking lot at the end of the village Blatnica, an asphalt road suitable even for families with strollers leads, gradually turning into a forest path. From Blatnická dolina, marked trails lead to the surrounding peaks such as Tlstá (1373 m) or Ostrá (1247 m), which are among the most popular destinations. In the valley itself, you will find several caves and rock formations, for example the famous rock overhang Močidlo.

For Czech tourists, Blatnická dolina is a great tip for a full-day trip. Don't forget to visit the Museum of Karol Plicka in the village of Blatnica, which documents the folk culture of the region. Accommodation and refreshments are offered by the surrounding villages; before the hike it is advisable to bring enough water, as there are no springs in the valley. In winter, the valley is used by cross-country skiers.
