The highest peak of the Roháče range in the Western Tatras offers breathtaking views and challenging hiking trails.
Baníkov (2,178 m above sea level) is the highest peak of the Roháče, a part of the Western Tatras in Slovakia. Its massive rocky massif dominates the entire mountain range and offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and the Polish side of the Tatras. The ascent of Baníkov is a popular challenge for experienced hikers.
Two main marked trails lead to the summit – from Ťatliakova chata via Baníkovské sedlo or from Zelené pleso via Smutné sedlo. The trail from Ťatliakova chata is shorter but technically more demanding, with chains and ladders. The second trail is longer and more relaxed. From the summit, there is a circular view of the Roháčske plesá, Ostrý Roháč, Sivý vrch, and in the distance, the High Tatras.
For Czech tourists, the ideal starting point is the village of Zuberec, from where you can hike to Ťatliakova chata. We recommend the summer season (July–September), as in winter the ascent is only possible with winter equipment and experience. Entry to the area is subject to a fee and there are restrictions off marked trails due to nature protection. Accommodation can be found in Zuberec or directly at the chalet.
