A unique dendrological park with giant sequoias and an Asian collection of trees invites a full-day walk.
Arborétum Mlyňany, founded in 1892 by nobleman Dr. Štefan Ambrózy-Migazzi, is one of the most important botanical gardens in Slovakia. It covers an area of 67 hectares in the picturesque valley of the Žitava River and is known mainly for its extensive collection of trees from around the world, especially from East Asia and North America.
The biggest attraction is the massive giant sequoias, which reach heights of over 50 meters and are among the tallest trees in Central Europe. Besides them, you will find rare dawn redwoods, cedars, rhododendrons, and other exotic plants. A walk through the arboretum follows marked trails that reveal various themed corners – a Japanese garden, an alpine garden, and a rose garden.
For Czech tourists, the arboretum is easily accessible, located just a few kilometers from the R1 expressway between Nitra and Zlaté Moravce. The ideal time to visit is spring and autumn, when the colors of the leaves create an unforgettable atmosphere. The area offers parking and refreshments, the entrance fee is reasonable, and photography is allowed.
