Biebrzański National Park (Biebrzański Park Narodowy)

About this place

A vast national park protecting unique wetlands and peat bogs in the Biebrza river valley, a paradise for birdwatchers and lovers of wild nature.

Biebrzański National Park, Poland's largest national park, was established in 1993 to protect the extensive wetlands and peat bogs along the Biebrza River. Covering over 59,000 hectares, it includes one of Europe's most valuable wetland habitats, listed under the Ramsar Convention. Its wild and hard-to-reach landscape has preserved a pristine natural character.

The park is renowned for its rich birdlife – you can observe white-tailed eagles, cranes, black storks, and rare waders. In spring, thousands of birds arrive, making it a paradise for ornithologists. Besides birds, the park is home to moose, wolves, beavers, and otters. Popular sites include the Czerwone Bagno reserve, nature trails such as Barwik and Długa Luka, and observation towers near Goniądz. In summer, you can canoe down the Biebrza for a unique perspective on the local nature.

For Czech tourists, the park is an ideal destination for an active holiday. The best time to visit is spring (April–May), when bird migration peaks and nature awakens. We recommend accommodation in nearby villages such as Goniądz or Osowiec-Twierdza. Bring binoculars and comfortable footwear, as trails may be waterlogged. Entry to the park is free, but a permit is required for canoe routes.
