Imposing Gothic defensive structure from the 15th century, one of the best-preserved barbicans in Europe and the gateway to Krakow's Old Town.
Barbakan in Krakow is a massive circular fortress built between 1498 and 1499 as part of the city's fortifications. This brick structure with seven towers and a deep moat served to defend the Florian Gate and is an excellent example of medieval fortification art.
Today, the barbican is a popular tourist attraction and a venue for many cultural events. Inside, you can see an exhibition on the history of Krakow's city walls and enjoy views of the surrounding Planty Park. It is an ideal starting point for touring the Royal Route.
For Czech tourists: admission is reasonable and the site is easily accessible on foot from the Main Square. We recommend combining a visit with the Florian Gate and a walk through the historic center. There are many restaurants and cafes nearby.
