The Partnach Gorge is one of the most visited natural wonders in the Bavarian Alps. The wild Partnach River has been carving its way through limestone rocks for millennia, creating a deep canyon with vertical walls reaching up to 80 meters high. The gorge was opened to tourists as early as 1912 and has since attracted visitors with its raw beauty.
The tour route leads along narrow walkways and tunnels carved into the rock, often just a few meters above the roaring water. The most beautiful sections offer views of turquoise water, numerous rapids, and several waterfalls. The gorge has a special atmosphere in winter when temperatures drop and waterfalls turn into giant ice organs and icicles adorn the canyon walls.
For Czech tourists, Partnachklamm is easily accessible from Garmisch-Partenkirchen – it is about a 45-minute walk from the train station or you can take a local bus. An early morning visit is ideal to avoid queues at the entrance. Don't forget waterproof clothing and good footwear; inside it is damp and cool even in summer. Entrance fee can be paid in cash or by card. It can be combined with a hike to mountain huts or a trip to Zugspitze.
