Englischer Garten (English Garden)

About this place

One of the largest urban parks in the world, an oasis of peace in the middle of Munich with beer gardens, a lake, and a surf wave.

The Englischer Garten in Munich is a vast public park covering over 3.7 km², stretching from the city center to the northern suburbs. It was created in 1789 at the behest of Elector Charles Theodore and today is one of the most popular relaxation spots for locals and tourists alike. The park is designed in the English landscape style, with extensive meadows, groves, and the meandering Eisbach stream.

Main attractions include the Chinese Tower (Chinesischer Turm) with its adjacent beer garden, which can accommodate up to 7,000 guests, and a Japanese teahouse on an artificial island. Also famous is the surf wave on the Eisbach, where you can watch experienced surfers. In summer, visitors sunbathe on the meadows; in winter, sledding is possible on the slopes. For peace seekers, the northern part of the park is ideal, being less crowded.

For Czech tourists, the Englischer Garten is easily accessible on foot from Munich's city center. Admission is free. We recommend combining a visit with a tour of the historic center. Don't forget to taste the local beer at one of the beer gardens, for example at the Chinese Tower. The park is open year-round and offers a refreshing green escape from the urban hustle.
