Campus Galli (Meßkirch)

Campus Galli is a unique project in southern Germany, where they strive to build a medieval monastery according to the 9th-century plan of St. Gallen. Construction is carried out exclusively using tools, materials, and techniques available in Carolingian times. The project began in 2013 and is expected to last many decades. Visitors thus have a rare opportunity to see a stone church, wooden buildings, and the entire complex come to life step by step.

During the tour, you will encounter craft workshops – blacksmiths, carpenters, stonemasons, potters, and more. You can watch how wood and stone are worked, basketry is woven, or fabrics are dyed. The site also includes fields, gardens, and animals raised in historical ways. Children and adults can try some activities in workshops.

For Czech tourists, Campus Galli is easily accessible, located about 40 km north of Lake Constance. We recommend setting aside at least half a day to explore the entire area. On-site refreshment offers traditional dishes. Admission is about 12 €, open seasonally from April to October. An ideal trip for families with children and history enthusiasts.
