Embark on an exciting via ferrata through the steep vineyards of Calmont with magnificent views of the meanders of the Moselle River. An adrenaline experience for mountain and wine lovers!
The Calmont Klettersteig is one of the most impressive via ferratas in Germany, leading directly through the steep slopes of the famous Moselle wine region. This via ferrata takes you through the steepest vineyards in Europe, where grapes ripen on slopes with an incline of up to 65°. The route offers not only a sporty experience but also breathtaking panoramic views of the winding Moselle River and the surrounding picturesque villages.
The history of Calmont dates back to Roman times, when wine cultivation began here. The vineyards on these steep slopes are manually cultivated and produce renowned Riesling wines. The via ferrata itself was opened in 2002 and quickly became a popular attraction for tourists from all over the world. It is suitable for experienced hikers and adventurous beginners with proper equipment.
For visitors from the Czech Republic, the Calmont Klettersteig is easily accessible – located near the border, about 30 km from Trier. We recommend parking in the village of Bremm and from there following the marked trail to the start of the via ferrata (route length approx. 3 km, elevation gain 200 m). Don't forget to bring your via ferrata set, helmet, and sturdy footwear. The ascent takes about 2–3 hours, and your reward will be not only the sense of conquering a challenging route but also the opportunity to taste excellent Moselle wine at one of the local wineries.
