Famous bronze statue of fairy tale animals from the Brothers Grimm story, a magical attraction in the heart of Bremen.
The bronze statue of the Bremen Town Musicians by sculptor Gerhard Marcks from 1953 is one of the most famous symbols of the city of Bremen. Inspired by the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, it depicts a donkey, a dog, a cat, and a rooster standing on top of each other. The statue stands on the west side of the town hall at the Marktplatz, which together with the Roland statue is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
According to legend, touching the donkey's hooves grants a wish and brings good luck, so the front legs of the statue are polished by countless visitors. The spot is a popular stop on a tour of Bremen's historic center and is easily found just a few steps from the main tourist magnet, the town hall.
