The Breitachklamm is the deepest and most breathtaking gorge in Central Europe, carved by the Breitach River in the Allgäu Alps near Oberstdorf. For millennia, the water has forced its way through limestone rocks, creating a narrow ravine with walls up to 100 meters high. Since 1905, it has been accessible via wooden paths and bridges that lead over the raging river.
During the approximately 2.5 km long walk, you will admire roaring waterfalls, bizarre rock formations, and moss-covered walls. The gorge offers an unforgettable experience in every season, but the water is most powerful in spring and after rains. The route is suitable for families, but it is not barrier-free – you will encounter stairs and slippery sections.
For Czech tourists, it is ideal to park at the lot near the entrance; leave the stroller behind and wear sturdy shoes. An entrance fee is charged, and we recommend arriving early in the morning to avoid crowds. You can combine the visit with a trip to nearby peaks such as the Fellhorn or Nebelhorn.
