Braunschweig, known as Brunšvik in Czech, is a city with a rich history dating back to the 9th century. Its center is still adorned by Burgplatz with the Romanesque Cathedral of St. Blaise, built by Henry the Lion, and the famous statue of the Brunswick Lion from 1166. Stroll through the alleys of the old town with half-timbered houses, visit Richmond Palace, and discover the courtyard of Dankwarderode Castle.
The city is a cultural center of Lower Saxony with many museums – the Herzog Anton Ulrich-Museum is one of the oldest public museums in Europe. Technology enthusiasts will appreciate the Technical University and research centers. For families, the Arche Noah Zoo is attractive. Don't forget to try the local specialty – Brunswick sausage.
