Bostalsee

Bostalsee is an artificially created lake in the heart of Saarland, surrounded by forested hills of the Saar-Hunsrück nature park. It was created in 1979 for flood protection, but today serves primarily as a recreational area popular with water sports enthusiasts, swimmers and those seeking relaxation by the water. With an area of 120 hectares, it is one of the largest lakes in the region and offers ideal conditions for sailing, windsurfing, paddleboarding and fishing.

A roughly seven-kilometer circular route around the lake is equipped with paths for hikers, cyclists and inline skaters, with many rest areas and views of the water surface. On the eastern shore there is a beach with fine sand and a gentle entry into the water, which is especially popular with families with children. In the area you will find campsites, bungalows and rental services for boats or bikes. For active visitors, a rope park and mini golf are also available.

For Czech tourists, Bostalsee is accessible by car via the D5 motorway and then through Germany, the journey takes about five to six hours. The area offers quality facilities and a quieter atmosphere than overcrowded tourist spots. In summer, cultural events and festivals take place here; in the vicinity, for example, the historic city of Saarbrücken or ancient Trier are worth a visit. The lake is suitable for a day trip as well as a longer vacation.
