Borkum – the westernmost of the East Frisian Islands attracts with wide sandy beaches, dunes and clean sea air. Ideal for cycling and relaxation.

The island of Borkum, located in the North Sea, is part of the East Frisian Islands and is known for its pristine nature. Since the 19th century, spa guests have been coming here to enjoy the beneficial iodine and salt climate. The harbor and promenade invite for walks, while the extensive sandy beaches offer peace and space for water sports.

History lovers will appreciate the Old and New Lighthouses, which provide beautiful views of the surrounding dunes and the Wadden Sea. The National Park Niedersächsisches Wattenmeer, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is home to seals and diverse birdlife. During low tide, guided tours on the muddy seabed can be taken to discover hidden life in the sand and experience the unique atmosphere of the tide.

For Czech tourists, Borkum is easily accessible by ferry from the Dutch Eemshaven (direct bus from Groningen in season) or from the German Emden. The island is completely car-free, ideal for cycling and hiking. A visit is recommended from May to September, but the stormy autumn weather also has its charm. Wellness centers offer thalassotherapy and seawater baths. Accommodation should be booked in advance as capacity is limited.
