Binz

About this place

Charming seaside resort on Rügen with a long sandy beach, historic pier and beautiful spa architecture. Ideal for relaxation and excursions to the chalk cliffs.

Binz is the most famous and liveliest seaside resort on the island of Rügen. Its origins date back to the 14th century as a small fishing village, but its real bloom came in the 19th century when it became a popular spa. Thanks to the wealth of preserved villas in the Bäderarchitektur style – with typical turrets, balconies and white facades – the town still retains a nostalgic atmosphere from the time of Imperial Germany.

The main attraction is the five-kilometer sandy beach lined with a promenade that leads to the impressive Seebrücke Binz pier from 1902. Nearby is the Granitz hunting lodge with an observation tower in the middle of a beech forest, offering a magnificent view of the entire coast. Nature lovers will appreciate the proximity of Jasmund National Park with the iconic chalk cliffs of Königsstuhl – an ideal destination for hiking.

For Czech tourists, Binz is accessible by car (from Prague about 7 hours via Dresden and Berlin) or by train with a transfer in Stralsund. The best time to visit is from May to September, when the beach and summer events come alive. Accommodation should be booked in advance, especially in high season. Binz is also a great base for exploring other parts of Rügen, such as Cape Arkona or the historic pier in Sellin.
