Berlin Cathedral, the landmark of Museum Island, is the largest and most important Protestant church in the German capital. It was built at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries in the neo-baroque and neo-renaissance style under the direction of architect Julius Carl Raschdorff. The monumental central dome rises to a height of 98 meters and withstood heavy damage during World War II; the interior reconstruction took decades.
Inside the cathedral, you will be amazed by the richly decorated pulpit altar, the massive Wilhelm Sauer organ with over 7,000 pipes, and the impressive imperial nave. The crypt houses the tomb of the Hohenzollern dynasty with over 90 sarcophagi. The highlight of the visit is climbing 270 steps to the gallery of the dome, offering a breathtaking panoramic view of central Berlin.
For Czech tourists, the cathedral is easily accessible on foot from Alexanderplatz or the S-Bahn station Hackescher Markt. The admission fee includes a tour of the main nave, crypt, and dome; we recommend using the audio guide in English (Czech is not yet available). It is open daily, and outside of services, uninterrupted viewing is possible. After the visit, you can continue to the adjacent Museum Island or the historic Nikolaiviertel district.
