Breathtaking rock bridge high above the Elbe River offers one of the most beautiful views in Saxon Switzerland. Ideal destination for a day trip from Bohemia.
Bastei is an impressive sandstone rock formation towering 194 meters above the Elbe River. For over 200 years, tourists have been coming here to admire the unique Basteibrücke stone bridge connecting the individual rock towers and offering views into the deep valley and the surrounding table mountains.
Originally a wooden bridge stood here, but in 1851 it was replaced by the current sandstone arch. The site has a rich history – it served as a defensive point and later as a romantic destination for early tourists. Today it is part of the Saxon Switzerland National Park and is one of the most visited attractions in the region.
For Czech travelers, Bastei is easily accessible – from Hřensko it is just a few kilometers by car or bus to the parking lot, from where a comfortable path leads (about 15 minutes walk). We recommend going early in the morning to avoid the crowds and combine the visit with a trip to the Neurathen rock castle, which is located right on site. Don't forget your camera and sturdy shoes!
