Bad Urach is a charming spa town with a rich history, located in the picturesque valley of the river Erms. Since the 15th century, it has been a sought-after destination for its thermal springs, which gave the town its spa status. The dominant feature is the ruin of Hohenurach Castle, once a mighty fortress of the Counts of Württemberg, offering a magnificent view of the town and the surrounding hills of the Swabian Alb. A walk through the historic center with half-timbered houses and a Renaissance town hall will take you back to the past.
The greatest natural attraction is the Urach Waterfall, one of the highest in the entire mountain range. The water falls over limestone terraces from a height of 37 meters, creating a romantic backdrop. In the vicinity, there are also many hiking trails, for example to the Falkensteiner Höhle cave or to the Römerstein peak. Relaxation enthusiasts will appreciate the modern thermal baths with outdoor pools and a sauna world.
For Czech tourists, Bad Urach is easily accessible - it lies only about 60 km south of Stuttgart, which is connected by direct highways from the Czech Republic. It is ideal to combine a visit with a trip to Lichtenstein Castle or to the Swabian Alb Biosphere Reserve. Parking is possible on the outskirts of the town, from where you can walk to all attractions. The best time to visit is spring and autumn, when nature is most colorful and temperatures are pleasant for wandering.
