Bad Kissingen

Bad Kissingen is one of the most famous spa towns in Bavaria, located in the picturesque valley of the Fränkische Saale river at the foot of the Rhön Mountains. Its healing springs were discovered as early as the 8th century, but the town gained fame mainly in the 19th century, when notable figures such as Empress Elisabeth of Austria (Sisi), Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, and composer Richard Wagner regularly visited. The historic center is adorned with beautiful spa parks, colonnades, and magnificent buildings from the Art Nouveau and Classicist periods.

The main attractions include the impressive Kurgarten (Spa Park) with the Wandelhalle, an arcaded promenade where the famous Rakoczy spring emerges. You can also visit the modern thermal baths KissSalis Therme, the extensive rose garden (Rosengarten), or the Bismarck Tower viewpoint with panoramic views of the surroundings. History enthusiasts will find the Bismarck Museum or the ruins of Botenlauben Castle on the hill above the town interesting.

For Czech tourists, Bad Kissingen is easily accessible – it lies just a few kilometers from the border, approximately a 2-hour drive from Prague via the D5 and A3 motorways.
