Bacharach is one of the most charming towns on the Middle Rhine, known for its perfectly preserved medieval atmosphere. Its history dates back to the 11th century, when it was a strategic point for the wine trade. The town is surrounded by city walls with several towers, the most famous of which is Postenturm. The dominant feature is Stahleck Castle, which today serves as a renowned youth hostel and offers magnificent views of the Rhine Valley.
Strolling through the narrow streets, you will discover many half-timbered houses, romantic corners, and wine taverns where you can taste local Rhine wines, especially Riesling. Also worth a visit is the ruin of St. Werner's Chapel, a unique Gothic structure, and St. Peter's Church with beautiful frescoes. Bacharach is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Upper Middle Rhine Valley.
For Czech tourists, Bacharach is easily accessible by train from Frankfurt or Mainz. It is ideal for a day trip or a weekend stay. The town offers excellent opportunities for hiking in the surrounding vineyards and romantic boat trips on the Rhine.
