Ahrenshoop

About this place

Picturesque fishing village and former artist colony on the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula on the Baltic Sea, ideal for lovers of peace, beaches and art.

Ahrenshoop is a charming seaside resort on the narrow Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula between the Baltic Sea and the Bodden lagoon. Originally a fishing village, it became a haven for artists in the late 19th century, drawn by the rugged beauty of the landscape. Today, the town still retains its distinctive character with thatched roofs, narrow streets, and galleries.

For visitors, the main attraction is the extensive sandy beach lined with dunes and pine forests, part of the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park. You can go for walks along marked trails, watch birds, or enjoy fresh fish specialties at the Althagen harbor. Also worth a visit are the Art Museum (Kunstmuseum) and the former home of painter Paul Müller-Kaempff.

For Czech tourists, Ahrenshoop is an ideal destination for a quiet holiday away from the crowds. The nearest larger city is Rostock, from which trains run to Ribnitz-Damgarten and then by bus. Accommodation should be booked in advance, especially in the summer season. Try cycling trips on the flat peninsula or a boat trip on the Bodden.
