The oldest Croatian arboretum with exotic flora, Renaissance fountains, and stunning views of the Adriatic.
Arboretum Trsteno is a unique combination of a historic park and botanical garden, founded as early as the 15th century by the noble Gučetić-Gozze family. It covers an area of 28 hectares and boasts rare collections of Mediterranean and exotic trees, including giant plane trees over 400 years old, as well as collections of palms, eucalypts, and cacti.
Visitors are enchanted not only by the lush greenery but also by architectural gems – a Renaissance summer villa, a stone fountain with Neptune, and a unique aqueduct that still waters the garden. The site gained fame thanks to the Game of Thrones series, where scenes of the Red Keep's gardens in King's Landing were filmed.
The arboretum is located just 18 km northwest of Dubrovnik and is easily accessible by bus or car (parking available). Entry is charged, but for an idyllic walk with views of the sea and islands, it is definitely worth it. The ideal time to visit is spring and autumn when plants are in bloom and temperatures are more pleasant.
