Bodamské jezero – Bregenz

About this place

Picturesque town on the shores of Lake Constance, famous for its opera festivals and beautiful promenade.

Bregenz, the capital of the Austrian state of Vorarlberg, lies on the eastern shore of Lake Constance. Its history dates back to Roman times, as evidenced by the name Brigantium. Today, the town is known primarily for the world-famous Bregenz Festival (Bregenzer Festspiele), which every summer attracts tens of thousands of visitors to unique opera performances on a stage set directly on the water.

For nature and hiking enthusiasts, a trip to Mount Pfänder (1064 m) is ideal, offering a magnificent view of the entire lake and the alpine panorama. The summit can be reached by cable car directly from the city center. Lake Constance itself offers swimming, boat trips, or walks along the shore.

For Czech tourists, Bregenz is easily accessible – the drive from the Czech Republic takes about 4–5 hours. Train connections to nearby Lindau (Germany) and onward by boat are also possible. The town is an ideal stop on the way to the Alps and offers a wide range of accommodation from campsites to hotels. Don't forget to taste local fish specialties straight from the lake.
