About this place
The largest lake in the Salzkammergut invites you to boat trips, swimming, and excursions to the surrounding mountains. Crystal-clear water and alpine panoramas promise an unforgettable holiday.
Lake Attersee is the largest lake entirely within Austria and ranks among the cleanest lakes in the Salzkammergut. Its crystal-clear water, with visibility of up to 25 meters, attracts lovers of swimming, diving, and water sports. The surrounding mountain panorama is formed by the majestic Höllengebirge ridge, offering beautiful views.
The history of tourism at Attersee dates back to the 19th century, when the area was discovered by nobles and artists. The famous painter Gustav Klimt spent summers here and created many landscape paintings. Today, you can visit Litzlberg Castle on a small island, explore the promenades in the towns of Attersee and Seewalchen, or take a scenic boat trip connecting the main resorts.
For Czech tourists, Attersee is easily accessible: from Prague via the motorway through Linz (about 3.5 hours by car), or by train to Attnang-Puchheim station and then by bus. Accommodation is available in quaint guesthouses and campsites. In summer, don't miss swimming in the warm water (up to 26 °C) and hikes to peaks like Brennerin (1552 m) or Egelsee, a natural swimming spot with a view of the lake.
