Amethyst World Maissau (Amethyst Welt Maissau) offers a unique glimpse into the underground kingdom of purple crystals. The history of mining here dates back to 1845, when a rich vein of amethysts was discovered during the construction of a railway. Today, the mine has been transformed into an attractive tourist destination with a nature trail, museum, and adventure playground for children.
During a guided tour, you descend into underground tunnels where you learn about geological history and see beautiful amethyst geodes. The museum displays a giant amethyst stone weighing several tons and many other minerals from around the world. For little visitors, gold and gemstone panning is available, guaranteeing fun for the whole family.
Amethyst World is located only about 30 km from the Czech border, roughly an hour's drive from Znojmo. Parking is free, and the site has a restaurant and a souvenir shop. We recommend booking your tour in advance, especially on weekends. Open all year round, daily in summer, on weekends in winter. The temperature in the mine is constant around 10 °C, so bring warmer clothing.
